Runway Models

San Diego Model Management - Runway Models 1

If your goal is to become a runway model then let us help you achieve this goal at San Diego Model Management. We have helped hundreds of models become successful runway models. There are those who think that they have what it takes to be a runway model until they are constantly finding themselves overlooked for another model. This is a clear indication that something is missing. First of all, there are certain requirements that must be met before most designers will even consider you to wear their clothes. While every designer has specific requirements, there are some that are pretty standard for most runway models, even for plus size models. Even then, they are expected to be healthy but are not required to maintain the same weight. The modeling world can be damaging physically and mentally. We help you maintain them both by setting expectations upfront.

Standard Runway Requirements

While there are always exceptions to the rule, there are some industry standards that hardly ever change. When it comes to the physical characteristics of a female runway model, most designers are looking for a female that is between 5’8” and 6” tall. However, remember that there are some models who find success despite being shorter. This is usually because of their level of work ethics and professionalism. There are not a set standard of weight requirements but in most cases, female runway models are about 110 to 130 lbs. Male runway models are typically between 5’11” to 6’2”. The typical weight of a runway model is 160 to 180 lbs. Remember, there are always exceptions and you may just be that exception; so don’t count yourself out, call San Diego Model Management instead.

Take Care of Yourself

It doesn’t matter how good your walk is, if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t succeed in any facet of the modeling industry. While we can tell you to take care of yourself, it is ultimately up to each model how they plan to do so. We encourage our models to make sure they are eating a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, taking care of their skin, drinking plenty of water, and never over-indulging in anything. This may seem simple but given the world that a model is thrust into, it can pose a challenge for some. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, it will affect your ability to secure runway work.

Working on Your Walk

It’s all about the walk. If you are not able to walk on a runway, you are of no value to the client. This is why we put our models through a rigorous program that will teach them how to effectively walk. When walking on the runway, you must have great posture. Shoulders need to be square and back straightened. Arms should be relaxed without swinging too much. Walk with long strides and put one foot in front of the other. This sounds easier said than done but we’ll help you do it. Trust our process and succeed.
